Five Al Jazeera journalists, including the well-known correspondent Anas al-Sharif, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. The Dutch Association of Journalists (NVJ) has called on the European Union to take steps to end the inhumane situation in Gaza. The letter follows earlier appeals from the NVJ to draw attention to the harsh conditions under which journalists must work in the war zone. According to the NVJ, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated to such an extent, with acute famine, that immediate intervention is necessary to save lives.

La Fédération néerlandaise des journalistes (NVJ) a appelé l’Union européenne à prendre des mesures pour mettre fin à la situation inhumaine à Gaza. La lettre suit des appels antérieurs de la NVJ demandant une attention particulière aux conditions difficiles dans lesquelles les journalistes doivent travailler dans cette zone de guerre. Selon la NVJ, la situation à Gaza s’est tellement détériorée, avec une famine aiguë, qu’une intervention immédiate est nécessaire pour sauver des vies.

De brief volgt op eerdere oproepen van de NVJ om aandacht te besteden aan de barre omstandigheden waaronder journalisten hun werk moeten doen in het oorlogsgebied. De situatie in Gaza is volgens de NVJ dusdanig verslechterd, met acute hongersnood, dat directe interventie geboden is om levens te redden.
