NRC Takes Principled Step in AI Journalism

The NRC has taken a principled step in integrating AI into the journalistic process, as outlined in the NRC Code since January 2024. Although the planned NRC Stembot was not realised due to internal resistance and reliability concerns, the editorial team recognises the potential value of AI. Editors are encouraged to use AI but with awareness of possible errors and shortcomings. The NRC continues to gain experience with responsible chatbots and plans a thorough evaluation of future AI projects.

Le NRC a franchi une étape de principe dans l’intégration de l’IA au processus journalistique, comme consigné dans le Code NRC depuis janvier 2024. Bien que le Stembot prévu du NRC n’ait pas été réalisé en raison d’une résistance interne et de préoccupations liées à la fiabilité, la rédaction reconnaît la valeur potentielle de l’IA. Les rédacteurs sont encouragés à utiliser l’IA, mais en restant conscients des erreurs et des limites possibles. Le NRC continue d’acquérir de l’expérience avec des chatbots responsables et prévoit une évaluation approfondie des futurs projets d’IA.

Hoewel de geplande NRC Stembot niet is gerealiseerd vanwege intern verzet en betrouwbaarheidszorgen, erkent de redactie de potentiële waarde van AI. Redacteuren worden aangemoedigd om AI te gebruiken, maar met bewustzijn van de mogelijke fouten en tekortkomingen.
